Education Overview

Education Programme

Robert Hylton Urban Classicism (RHUC) workshop packages can be designed for schools, colleges, community projects and professional practitioners of dance.

The company's aims are to promote street forms of dance, b boying (break-dance), popping, as well as modern formal dance techniques.

RHUC believes that:

  • All modern formal dance technique's, are important to maintain a healthy body.
  • A better understanding of each person's physical tools creates physical longevity in participants.
  • The use of video, for dance history will enable the participants to create a better understanding of the dancers and dance forms.
  • A physical warm up, consisting of co-ordination exercises and games, varying for all abilities is critical to development.
  • Stretches and cardio vascular activities should be included in each workshop.
  • Improvisation exercises will help build an individual's progression and opportunity.
  • Encouraging the participants to show their material at the end of the workshop along with the company's material is beneficial.

We aim to work with all sections of the community and have developed specific programmes for children aged 8 - 10 years, young people, adults teachers and dance professionals. Plus we are developing our own in house outreach projects that include working with dance students and professional artists and in the future young people at risk.

We aspire at all times to be fully inclusive and often seek advice and additional expertise when delivering projects with participants with disabilities and/or learning difficulties.
