RepertorySwan Breaks: Autumn (2007) 70 mins Full-length workA futuristic version of Swan Lake, Swan Breaks reinvents traditional dance, theatre and music with the use of technology and storytelling. Swan Breaks is an adapted contemporary reading of the very famous classical ballet Swan Lake. Interpreted by hip hop performers and musicians the story is told with the fusion of contemporary dance. Outline: Using RHUC’s unpredictability and rye humour in dance and multi media staging DJ/Producer Billy Biznizz will provide a futuristic music score reflecting on the subject of human evolution. If technology broadens our lives does it suppress our emotions? Will love be lost as science advances? Or will future relationships be a virtual experience as our instinctive, natural human emotions are totally disorientated by cascades of gadgets and bar codes? The theme of this piece is modern languages, spoken and physical and danced by two men and one woman. The visual design is from leading graphics team AllofUs. Choreography by Robert Hylton, with additional choreography by the company. Short Copy: Jumping onto stage as if in a time machine. In 2005 - how did we react, perceive, communicate to one another! So what now in 50, 100 or even 200 years time? |
